My Simple Travel Skincare Routine
Here is a guide to a simple travel skincare routine for you, that will take the stress out of travelling
As far back as I can remember, skincare has always been an important issue to the women in my family. I remember how, after each bath as a child, my โgrannyโ would rub coconut oil onto my skin and into my hair.
My skin would glitter and give off the most brilliant bronze hue in the bright Jamaican sun; a glow that even J.Lo would have been proud of.
And to this day, I still moisturise head to toe with various lotions and potions bought over the years from my travels.
From applying the best Korean face mask, (Yes, Iโve applied snail secretion on my face, to give my skin that newborn-baby softness) to covering my face and body in black volcanic ash which pulls impurities from the skin.
Iโve tried it all.Iโm a big believer in taking care of my skin, especially when travelling, as I discovered that this is when my skin gets clogged the most, no thanks to the late nights, drinking, and horrible eating.
I try as much as possible though, to keep my travel skincare routine as simple as I can.
Iโve picked up a few Korean skincare tips from bloggers like Chriselle Lim and Aimee Song as well as the sales associates at the beauty counters across London.
Here, is my simple travel skincare routine!
I like to travel to hot countries, so I make sure to up my moisturising game; wear my year-round Kiehlโs Ultra Light Daily Defense SPF 50 and of course, my trusted coconut oil.
Today, Iโll take you through what skincare products I pack whenever I travel. Here is my simple travel skincare routine.
Morning Routine
I usually wash my face with Simpleโs Kind To Skin Vital Vitamin Foaming Cleanser or Neutrogena Oil-free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser.
These two cleansers lather very well, leaving my face clean without irritating or drying it out. Plus, they have the perfect โmorningโ scent; light and refreshing, not overly strong or choking.
I also love that I can transfer them into travel-size bottles. For my combination eczema prone skin, I like to use lightweight moisturisers that work well under makeup.
I tend to rotate between my main moisturiser, Kiehlโs Ultra Facial Cream and Simpleโs Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser.
Kiehlโs has an easily absorbed formula and is also very lightweight.
It is formulated with Squalane and water-retaining Imperata cylindrica, that protects the skin in harsh weather conditions.
After my face and neck have been properly moisturised, I apply sunscreen to guard my skin against the sun.
For about a year now, Iโve been using the Kiehlโs Ultra Light Daily Defense SPF 50 and itโs been my favourite so far. I prefer it over the many others Iโve tried before.
Not only does it provide my skin with broad-spectrum sunscreen protection, it also has a lightweight feel (good for travel) and does not leave a bluish film on my skin as most sunscreens tend to do for darker skin tones.
It is also oil-free and helps keep dark spots and wrinkles from making an appearance on my face. But most importantly, it works so well under makeup.
Night Time Routine
I use an oil-based makeup remover or just plain Vita coco extra-virgin coconut oil to take off my makeup.
I buy the huge jar from Boots and then transfer some into a plain travel-size container (I buy a 250ml jar because I use coconut oil for many other things: cooking, hair conditioning, and as a body lotion).
After removing my makeup, I wipe off any stubborn smudges with some Garnier Micellar Water dabbed onto cotton pads.
After that, I just rinse my face with warm water. I have an uneven skin tone with huge pores on my face, so Iโm forever trying out serums that can help to even out my tone and reduce the pores on my face. I eventually discovered Kiehlโs line-reducing concentrate.
Itโs formulated with 10.5% pure Vitamin C and I realised that just a few pumps does wonders for my skin. It gives me such a radiant skin tone.
I finish my face off with the lavender-scented Kiehlโs Midnight Recovery Concentrate by dabbing a few drops onto my skin with my hands.
The facial oil is a blend of essential oils and botanicals including lavender oil, evening primrose oil and plant-derived Squalane. The oil absorbs quickly into the skin and is non-greasy, so I donโt go to sleep looking like a greasy ball.
The oil works while youโre sleeping to re-energise and improve skin tone while I sleep. It leaves me with a more radiant even-toned skin that gets me compliments for days.
