Shoreditch Photo Walk With the Huawei P20
Recently I was invited on a photo walk around Shoreditch to test out the new Huawei P20 camera features. If you’ve been reading this blog long enough, you know that I’ve been trying to improve my photography and storytelling skills. I jumped at the chance to do a photo walk with a professional photography Rob, as I knew I would be picking up so tips from a master. The photo walked combined a few of my favourite things like street photography, vibrant murals and bustling food spots of Shoreditch. After meeting Rob at Old Street Station early on a bright sunny morning, he runs me through the specs of the camera. They were impressive for such a small device. The Huawei P20 camera sensor - the main sensor has the 12-megapixel f/1.8 lens and monochrome sensor 20-megapixel f/1.6 lens. The front-facing camera has a 24-megapixel f/2.0 lens. The phone also has optical image stabilisation and shoots 4k video.Check out my Shoreditch photo walk Instagram highlights But the first thing that caught my eyes was that the Huawei P20 was co-engineered with Lecia. If you know anything about cameras, you know that Lecia is like the Beyoncé of camera makers. They make some of the best and most expensive lenses and camera bodies on the market and have been since 1914.It’s safe to say they know their stuff when it comes to making great cameras for capturing stunning images and creating beautiful memories. The second thing I liked about the Huawei P20 camera was that it shoots in RAW as well as JPG and if you want to get the best from your images, it's always useful to shoots in RAW. I used the portrait mode of the camera through most of the day. I even compared shots taken in the portrait mode on the Huawei P20 and my beloved and trusted iPhone 7 plus. I must say the portrait mode on the Huawei P20, won hands down. The bokeh on Huawei P20 is what you would expect from a DSLR or mirrorless camera, isolates the subject from the background, and the colours were a lot richer in comparison to my iPhone 7 plus.
